Supporting School Leaders with Education Operations

The Stone Age didn't end because they ran out of stones.

I was reminded of this saying (it's one of my favourites) by the ISBL conference event held last week in Birmingham. The SBL community is so full of innovation, professional generosity and support for each other. I was welcomed with smiles, waves, hugs, and even (I'm thrilled to say) a Vulcan salute! When you have like-minded practitioners in the same room, all willing to share their skills and experience, you can't help but push forward and start thinking about new ideas. The thing is, when SBLs come up with new ideas and ways of working, it can impact a whole generation!

There is no doubt that the role of the SBL is vital to the success of a school. We can all see the tangible impact of teachers, technicians and teaching assistants, those front line staff who influence a pupil's life directly every day, but you must never underestimate the impact your skills and experience brings to your setting, and the community in which you work.

Networking events always leave me bursting with motivation and ideas. It is always valuable getting to just one every year if you can. I won't deny, it can be daunting, but everyone will be pleased to see you and want to hear about your experiences (even if you are brand new to the community!)

I can't leave this newsletter without mentioning Advent which started yesterday. It's such an uplifting time of year. My tree is already twinkling and my advent calendar this year gives me a new filter coffee to try every morning. The 2024 Advent themes are hope, peace, joy and love. I wish you all that at this busy time of the year.
